Roanoke, VA – The City of Roanoke could be the next recipient of a $20,000 park improvement grant, with your help. For the month of April, residents can nominate Roanoke every day between April 1 and 30 at NRPA.org/BeInspired.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) will award one grant to the city with the most nominations for the third annual Meet Me at the Park competition.
Roanoke Parks and Recreation is an award-winning and nationally accredited municipal agency that manages 60 parks, five greenways and four plazas spanning more than 13,000 acres of park land, including Carvins Cove Natural Reserve, the second largest municipal park in the nation. The department is also responsible for delivering more than 2,000 unique recreation activities, races, after school programs, and camps annually. Roanoke Parks and Recreation is also responsible for organizing popular community events, including the Anthem GO Outside Festival, Kids to Parks Day, and July Fourth celebrations.
“Our main goal is to improve livability and to support our community by delivering beautiful parks and exceptional recreational opportunities,” said Michael Clark, director of the City of Roanoke’s Dept. of Parks and Recreation. “If Roanoke is selected, the grant will help us invest in new community-based park improvement projects that improve quality of life – with a focus on neighborhoods in Northwest and Southeast Roanoke.”
The NRPA will announce the winning community on May 18.
